-----------------------
36 Crazyfists is evidence that theres a beauty in isolation, a newfound purpose
from even the worst of tragedies, and that heavy metal and hard rock music
doesnt have to be all doom and gloom to have power.
Like the Jackie Chan flick from which they take their name, 36 Crazyfists brings
an action-packed attack with a smile, injecting an infectious enthusiasm into
their unique blend of crushing rhythms and soaring melodies. All of the rage and
venom youd expect is intact, of course, but theres a depth and dynamic that is
too often absent from the style that is inherent to everything 36 Crazyfists is
about.
Now an integral part of the ever-expanding Ferret Music family, 36 Crazyfists is
set to enter the studio with guitarist Steve Holt at the helm to record the
followup to the fan-beloved Rest Inside the Flames. New songs promise to further
expand and develop their sound, with the bands patented twists and turns which
already earned them favor amongst fans of bands like Thursday and Thrice
ensuring that none of it sounds contrived, copied or otherwise rehashed from
other bands.
Anchorage, Alaska has a small music scene, explains vocalist Brock Lindow.
Pretty much everyone knows each other. Growing up there shaped us to be aware
of the beauties of isolation and creating your own self. We had MTV just like
everyone else, but as people, we adapted to dark winters and summers where the
sun never went down. That in itself created so many amazing rituals and memories
of the season.
From the bands beginnings in 1994, they set out to create honest music that
draws from many places without sounding like any other band in particular. After
their original bass player died in a tragic automobile accident, the band
relocated to Portland, Oregon and continued on, ever more determined to make
their music heard.
The guys in Bay Area metal band Skinlab alerted the A&R department at Roadrunner
Records to 36 Crazyfists, who released their first album, Bitterness the Star,
in 2002. A Snow Capped Romance followed two years later, supported on tours with
Killswitch Engage (whose early releases were issued by Ferret) and Poison the
Well (who are now on Ferret).
Rest Inside the Flames delivered tenfold on the promise of the first two albums,
showcasing Lindows impressive range alongside the skillful and fluid playing of
Holt, drummer Thomas Noonan, and bass player Mick Whitney. Throngs of fans
across Europe and North America have embraced the band. Andy Sneap is scheduled
to mix the bands as-yet untitled Ferret Music debut, which promises to be turn
even more heads than before.
I hope people can look at 36 Crazyfists as a group that came from a place where
no one gets out of musically, who saw the world and made music that was creative
and in some form, unique, says Lindow. And I think the greatest thing
alongside that is to gain the respect of your peers.

Thrice's boundary pushing continues with the second installment of the
Alchemy Index series. Volumes 1&2 (Fire & Water), released in October of last
year, were met with tremendous critical acclaim and fanfare. Fans and critics
were especially impressed with the Water side and just how far the band had
pushed the parameters of what they can do as professional musicians. The Ear
and Air series show two more sides of the band that anyone has yet to see.
The Earth side will showcase a more stripped down, raw element of the band,
while Air will expose a more soft rock side. One thing is for certain...no
one really knows where Thrice's music is going, and their fans seem to like
it just fine that way.

Release Notes:
dEUS - Belgiums pride in fearful days.
The first Belgian-based indie act ever to sign to a major
international label, the improvisational avant grunge group dEUS was
originally comprised of vocalist/guitarist Tom Barman, bassist Stef
Kamil Carlens, drummer Julle De Borgher, violinist Klaas Janzoons,
and guitarist Rudy Trouv. Formed in Antwerp in 1991, dEUS began
their career as strictly a cover band, but soon began performing new
material, honing an irreverent, free-form live show drawing on
influences ranging from folk and punk to jazz and prog rock.
After issuing a four-track EP titled Zea, dEUS mounted a series of
London performances that led to a contract with Island Records. In
1994 the group released its full-length bow, Worst Case Scenario,
winning acclaim for the singles Suds and Soda and Via. After
announcing plans to produce their own pornographic film, they issued
1995s My Sister, My Clock however, in the wake of the records
release, Carlens exited to focus on his side project, Moondog Jr.
Trouv soon followed suit, channeling his energies into the group
Kiss My Jazz with new guitarist Craig Ward and bassist Danny Cool
Rocket Mommens in tow, dEUS returned to the studio to cut 1997s In
a Bar, Under the Sea. The Ideal Crash followed in 1999.
dEUS continues to bring out its best and then some on The Ideal
Crash, which in many ways might be the groups best all-around
effort yet. That makes it a further pity it didnt get an American
release, relegating the quintet further into the realms of cult
appreciation stateside -- an undeserved fate for a band that has so
clearly worked well with its sources of inspiration there. If
anything, though, dEUS has moved into the realms of removed elegance
on The Ideal Crash -- the aggressive push mixed with nightclub
shadows of the past turned into a strange, calming dream at many
points. Consider One Advice, Space, whose trippy keyboard whines
and drones layer over the core song to create an unsettled murk,
suddenly broken by the subtle shift to strings and sweetly layered
vocals on the chorus. The gentle descending chime of The Magic
Hour and the banjo and string-tinged slow building brawl Instant
Street further capture the mood of seemingly relaxed intensity.
David Bottrills production is a secret element in the success of
The Ideal Crash, his skilled ears helping to really bring out the
sly but strong tension in so many of the bands songs. Opening
number Put the Freaks Up Front in particular, shifting fluidly as
it does into a mlange of motorik-inspired rhythm trance and dark
lounge jazz horns, with Barmans vocals and the overall results
suggesting what Nirvana might have tried in another lifetime and a
wider range to work with, sets a high bar at the start, even if much
of the album works in lower-key ways. Nods subtle and otherwise to
bands like Portishead (whose Mysterons seems to have suggested the
start to Sister Dew) give further evidence of a band that keeps
its ears open while still retaining its own counsel on what to
finally sound like.
Enjoy this Great MnD Release !

Release Notes:
Despite being a cliche of the laziest type, the idea of the
difficult second album is one that has endured simply
because so many bands seem to be unable to avoid falling
into its trap. Leeds Forward Russia! launched themselves
into so many peoples hearts two years ago with Give Me A
Wall, an album so tightly coiled that every one of its
enigmatic songs seemed to be bursting under the force of its
own tension. It was a collection of songs defined by the
whip-crack of drummer Katies snare and hi-hat, which meant
that while it was instantly recognisable as part of the
post-DFA dance/punk buzz it stood out enough for it to be a
still-stunning work that can justifiably be called of the
best debuts of the century so far.
And Life Processes is by no means a sequel it feels more
like the work of an entirely different band. Where Wall was
concise and focussed this sprawls and swirls, with a new
label (Cooking Vinyl) signifying their break with the past
in the form of no longer working as closely with Dance To
The Radio. Sod Joes Well, this is a record pitched at
Brixton Academy: every note drips with a laudable ambition
and vision that is lacking in so many bands around nowadays
who simply want to retread some half-arsed scene or exist in
a lineage that immediately bestows upon them some kind of
credibility. And while FR! arent wholly successful Life
Processes is flawed, but agreeably so at least theyre
trying ridiculously hard.
First, the bad news. We Are Grey Matter is symptomatic of
the album as a whole, anchored as it is by a horribly tacky
synth line and a mawkish Call response! lyric that is so
poorly executed its impossible not to question what they
were thinking. Despite the song soon progressing beyond the
aberrant opening into something recognisably FR! (riffs
that slice over one another in rigid straight lines, Toms
histrionic, earnest vocals, a real punchy energy), its not
until A Prospector Can Dream that the album starts to fall
into place. But even this is handicapped by the lyric Did
you ever study the Israelites? / They made a new life for
themselves with such a peculiar change is anyone really
going to be able to reply in the affirmative? Again, its
hugely impressive that theyre trying to hard to gain such
an epic scope in their music when, arguably, no one would
have expected them to move in such a direction, but they
fall short of unequivocal success. And Fosbury In
Discontent is a fine attempt at real emotional nakedness,
populated by just Tom and an airy piano that does battle
with the singer for domination of the upper register, but
has none of the raw power or rawness youd expect from such
a stripped-back song.
But while it undeniably takes a few listens before
everything clicks into place (first-time FR! listeners will
be able to approach the album quicker fewer expectations,
ysee), its the most outwardly inaccessible song that
proves the real gem of the album. Spanish Triangles has
already been unveiled all nine minutes of it but it
demonstrates a stunning calmness and fluidity. It builds
slowly, powerfully but effortlessly, growing organically
into itself. Its worth noting that Gravity & Heat, for
example, is almost three minutes shorter but feels much
longer Spanish Triangles is the real culmination of
their work post-Wall and stands as the impressive,
brilliant centrepiece. And Dont Reinvent What You Dont
Understand, one of the shortest songs on the album, managed
to move from one-two dance-punk to something undeniably
epic, helped no end by Whiskas chiming guitars that seem
air-lifted in direct from Explosions In The Skys Those Who
Tell The Truth era. And Some Buildings is a three-minute
lament stretched gloriously out for almost seven minutes,
again given the chance to breath and mutate on its own. It
doesnt cut right to the feet like their earlier material
but instead takes up residence in the gut, and by the third
time you hear it all doubts will be blown away.
So its a second album, and its certainly difficult. But
its also an album peppered by moments of brilliance and not
held back by its few brave failures and one that no one can
have reasonably expected the talented quartet to have come
up with. Its not the instant adrenal injection some were
hoping for, but it is certainly more than worth your time.

Music is a catalyst and For Today uses their August Burns Red-meets-Between The Buried and Me sound to spread their message acrosss the nation.

Caldera had been around for a bit of time now, roaming around the Nancy musical scene, whetting their finest tunes and getting ready for the final attack. The time has come now, a time to unleash a roaring fury that has been kept tamed for too long. The band has signed their first album and recorded it with the talented Serge Morratel at the Rec Studio in Geneva, Switzerland, obviously a long time commitment for Atropine and Radar Swarm always marked with success (through Year of no light, Tantrum, Metronome Charisma among others). Caldera’s sound can be pictured as the infernal encounter between the most epic side of a now ageing heavy metal recently revamped by the arcane Impure Wilhelmina and the hazy atmospheres developed by combos such as the post-metalheads Capricorns, not to mention the common love for a tight as Hell riffage they share with the latter’s brother in arms, Taint. Rather than going straight to the point, Caldera deliberately uses sideways, takes you through the filthiest detours but stay assured you'll get your load of insane headbanging listening to these tracks. That's what it's all about.
“Mist Through Your Consciousness” has been recorded and mixed by Serge Morattel at Rec Studio, Geneva, Switzerland (Knut, Overmars). Mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East Cambridge, MA (Converge, Keelhaul, Knut) Complete Artwork was made by Canadian Artist Chimere Noire.
By the way Caldera continues to explore its own audio representations and confirms its will to materialize instrumental negative riffing.

Release Notes:
At the beginning in 96/97, F and S. recorded loops and made sound Aerial M like Space Needles. E arrived and Acetate zero recorded the first 7 on Orgasm into 98. In 99, realization of Softcore paradise, the 1st album published with 200 specimens always on Orgasm, which will be re-pressed thereafter by the Californian label Drumkid (initially envisaged on Slumberland). The idea was to record pieces instinctively and simply, while making cross lines of guitars without neglecting the contribution of electronic elements. A certain melancholy post lo-fi air of nothing. After 3 individual, Acetate zero leaves their second album Ground Altitude in 2002 on Arbouse Recordings. At the end of 2004, left the 3rd album Crestfallen, always on Arbouse recordings. The group gained a permanent member and especially an additional guitar. This album ventilates and uncrosses its guitars by building walls deconstruits according to two angles of attack: MXR versus delay, feedbacker versus reverb. Certainly their most sonic disc. And always this good old woman nostalgia. Acetate Zero turned recently to France with Rothko. They also played with Pulseprogramming, Encre, Empress, the brothers Kadane (New Year, Bedhead...) and took part in festival MO FO 4, festival in Dijon...
Civilize the satanists
Well, the new album is there, just between 2007 and 2008, just nowhere. The title means nothing but Eduquons les sales cons (Educate the bastards) but if you can think about it, it just means we cant change nothing after all.
Twelve new tracks exept Definition of fall re-recorded 10 years after we made it and recorded in few instants almost 10 years ago. We love that song. We have new tracks now and always ready to play.
You can say that we dont mind, youre right but after 10 years how can you say that? You can say that we dont know how to use our guitars, youre deadly right but after 3 chords of wooden ride, were just laughing. Nobodys right and you cant change nothing after all.

In the beginning mainly influenced by Grindcore and Death Metal, first of all by bands like Extreme Noise Terror, Terrorizer, and Napalm Death, we gradually tried to introduce various styles of music. At the time Felix and Michael joined the band we started to blend Grindcore with Ska, Swing, Jazz...

RELEASE NOTES:
American Me is an early 90s movie starring Edward Olmos about gang life in an LA prison. Its a very violent and emotional movie, yet it really captures the audience. The movie was able to be very brutal and very passionate at the same time, and we kind of feel that it was a good parallel to our music. So says vocalist Tony Tataje in description of where their band name comes from. He references a similar sentiment when discussing their debut album Heat, due out on Rise on Feb 19th. We sort of use the gangster theme on the album, and it reflected both in the music and the art design, which has images of bullets and guns. Were all pretty angry about a lot of things that are going on in the world, and in our personal lives as well, and its reflected in the lyrics. For example, the song Anfal Campaign, which was an invasion that Saddam Hussein did to the Curds, for us is a metaphor that refers to some previous relationships. Those involved came in and invaded our lives, and then messed them all up. As you can see, the album process was pretty cathartic for us. The album was recorded and produced at Interlace Audio with Kris Crummet (Fear Before the March of Flames, Kaddisfly, Drop Dead Gorgeous, It Prevails), and was a very positive experience for the band, tells Tony. Kris was really open-minded to all of our crazy recording ideas. For example, we tuned to A, which is one of the lowest, darkest, angriest tones, for the whole record, and he was really supportive of something as unusual as that. He really helped us achieve our goal: to sound as big and loud and as pissed off as possible without using a ton of fake tones from processors. We want it to really create a booming impact upon the listener and still sound raw and real. American Me has been making that impact on tour over the past few weeks, just finishing up their first official US run on the Rise Records showcase tour. The band has done a significant amount of touring, and has shared the stage with a wide array of successful acts including Parkway Drive, Warriors, Misery Signals, Acacia Strain, Remembering Never, Emmure, and many more. The Portland, OR based American Me formed as a side project of It Prevails over two years ago, and ended up splitting up to make it a full time thing, something a bit heavier. Known for their sonically induced form of devastating music, they draw their inspiration from all aspects of their lives - everything from social values to personal issues to the regular 9 to 5 person experience.
